It's time to take over the drag strip!

Who: YOU! and the Sang-Froid Riding Club

Where: Portland International Raceway

What: P.I.R Late Night Drags. This is 1/4-mile "heads-up" racing (you both leave at the same time, first one over the finish line wins!). Race as much as you want - unlimited passes once you're in.

When: Friday the 18th, July. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., track goes hot ~6:15, track open until ~9:30. (They usually nudge us out of there around ten p.m.)

Why: Because it's fun! Because you probably haven't ever done it before. Because it's better than you think it'll be. Because you're not as quick as your friend, even though you think you are, and getting beat every now and then really helps you grow as a person, right? Because you're a road racer and you need to practice your starts. Because it'll be a warm summer evening, the weekend is just getting started, and hanging out and racing with friends and motorcycles (and cars) isn't the worst way to spend a Friday.

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  1. Snell 2015 or newer helmets are required. The tech inspectors will look inside your helmet liner for the sticker that says as much. Take a couple minutes to peep your own helmet before you come. If your helmet doesn’t have a Snell 2015 (or newer) sticker, you’ve got plenty of time to beg/borrow/steal one; get to it!

  2. Your motorcycle must have a chainguard. This seems to be the main thing tech inspectors look for on your bike. It can be simple, it can be ugly, but it must be there.

Note: These are not our rules; these are the rules of Portland International Raceway.

July 18th - SAVE THE DATE!

What's at stake? Primo bragging rights: best burnout, fastest top speed, best shit-talking, lowest elapsed time ... you name it!!

“MORE FUN THAN YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD BE”

Q: Do I need a race license?

A: You DO NOT need a race license, just your driver's license!

Q. What kind of bikes are allowed?

A. Streetbikes are A-OK to run as-is; racebikes are good too! Just make sure your bike is in decent shape and has a chainguard.

Q. How much does it cost?:

A. Racing costs $50, spectating is $10

Q. How many times can I race?

A. You can race as many times as you want! Gates open at 5:30 p.m., the track goes hot around 6, and they shut things down at 10 p.m.

Q. How do I race?

A. Go to PIR with $50. At the main gate, ask for a tech card; stick it in your pocket and come see us in the pits. We'll be pitting near the grandstands, just to the west of the tower at the outside of the track. Look for the grey and red SFRC EZ-Up. We'll set you up with a temporary number plate, and point you to tech and registration. It's easy, and it'll just take a few minutes, then you'll be on your way!

Q. What should I wear for racing?

A. Wear over-the-ankle boots, gloves, full-face helmet (Snell 2015 or newer), leather jacket (leather pants too if you have them). One-piece leathers are NOT required. If you're on a 'slower' bike (under 120 mph) or a 'smaller' bike (600cc or less) you're OK without safety pants - jeans are OK. (Again, these are PIR's rules, not ours).

Q. How do I spectate?

A. Go to PIR with $10. At the gate, tell them you're there to spectate. Come find us. We'll be pitting near the grandstands, just to the west of the tower at the outside of the track - look for the grey and red SFRC EZ-Up.

Q. Where does my money go?

A. All the $ goes to PIR Late Night Drags, we're just trying to get folks to come hang out and have fun on motorcycles!
